海外ドラマから学ぶ日常英会話Vol .2

本日は、【海外ドラマから学ぶ日常英会話Vol .2】
ということで。。
今回は「フラーハウス」第２話の１シーンを切り取って英会話をご紹介します★
DJとステファニーの冷蔵庫前でのこそこそ話。。
DJ: I still haven't told the boys Kimmy and Ramona are moving in today.
（まだ息子たちにキミ―とラモナがうちに引っ越してくるって伝えてないの）
still have not + 過去分詞：まだ～（過去分詞）してない
moving in：引っ越してくる
Stephanie: Chicken.
（チキン）
DJ: Okay, I'm a little chicken.
（そうね、私は少し”チキン＝臆病者”ね）
Stephanie: No, I'm talking about the fried checken.
（いや、このフライドチキンのこと話してた。）
ポイント１：イディオムー慣用語
Chicken = 臆病者
は有名なイディオムですね。
DJ: The boys have been through so many changes and now here comes another one.
（息子たちはたくさんの変化を経験して乗り越えてきてるのに、またもう１つ乗り越えないといけないことが舞い込んでくる）
have been through ～： ～を経験してきている
here comes ～：～がやってくる
DJ: and I just don't know how they are going to react.
(彼らがどんなふうに反応するかわからないの）
be going to 動詞: ～する（未来表現）
react: 反応する
ポイント２：未来表現のWillとbe going to ~の違い
Willは、計画されておらず「今そうすると決めた！」という時、強い決意を表すときに使います。
例１：Do you want to have a dinner with us after work?
Yes, sounds good! I will call you when I get off work.
例２：Will you marry me?
Yes!
be going to ~ は、その時点で既に決まっていたことを表す時や、明らかにそうなるのが分かっているときなどに使います。
例１：Are you coming straight home tonight?
Yes, I'm going to go home after work.
例２：It's going to rain today.
＊今回の話の内容で行くと、、どっちでも使える気がします。
DJ: So Don't say a word until I find the right moment to break the news.
（だから私が伝える良いタイミングを見つけるまで何も言わないでね）
Don't say a word: 何も言わないで
until～: ～まで
Find the right moment: いい瞬間を見つける
to ~: ～するための
break the news: 情報を伝える
Stephany: Soryy.
（ごめん。）
Stephany: I spilled the beans.
（しゃべっちゃった。）
ポイント２：イディオムー慣用語
Spilled the beans = 秘密を漏らす
DJ: You told them?
（教えたの？）
Stephany: No, I spilled the beans when I was reacing for the fried chicken.
（違うよ。フライドチキン取ろうとしたときに豆こぼしたの。）
spill：こぼす
reach for ～：～をとろうと手を伸ばす
以上、イディオムのややこしさで笑いをとる１シーンでした。
他にも、英語には食べ物を使ったイディオムはたくさんあります。
Driving you home is a piece of cake.
My crazy neighbor drives me nuts!!
She went bananas when she found out that her boyfriend was cheaing on her.
などなど。
